Scroll Poetry Press publishes micro chapbooks directly onto our e-reader app tailored to the modern poetry lover. It is our response to the popularity of algorithmic Instagram poetry, which allows readers the ability to scroll poetry in an accessible format at the cost of depth and artistic value. Algorithms make their money off endless scrolling—a poem that causes you to pause a moment to reflect is antithetical to the platform. At Scroll, we value the ease of accessible content just a click a way, but believe that the measure of a poem's value is more than engagement.
We do not see Scroll as a replacement for traditional poetry presses, which are doing great work, but as a supplement. Not everyone has the time or money to carry around printed poetry everywhere they go, but most have 5 minutes to spare to open an app and swipe.
